Large voluminous dust collectors with bag filters are now a thing of the past, because dust collection technology now faces a revolutionary change. With PowerCore® Donaldson introduces a new technology for industrial dust collection, which clearly distinguishes itself from the currently known industrial dust collection and which leads to significant cost reductions in these environmental relevant areas of application. In comparison to the conventional dust collectors, the Donaldson Torit DCE units using the new PowerCore® technology are up to 70 % smaller (picture 1). The significance of this development becomes evident with the following example: For a dust collection unit, which up to now had to be equipped with 81 bag filters of each 2,40 m in length, now only 12 PowerCore® filter packs are required (picture 2).

Two essential factors have contributed to this performance increase. As one of the leading providers of intake filters for compressors and heavy duty vehicles Donaldson was able to make use of the experience in these application areas and convey this to the dust collection technology. The PowerCore® filter packs combine the latest findings of filter media manufacturing with the patented Ultra-Web® nanofiber technology (picture 3). The rounded shape of the PowerCore® filter packs in conjunction with the patented Ultra-Web® filter media allows a higher dust load to be collected on the surface of the media flutes, as would be possible with conventional fibre filters with a depth loading of 540 g/m2 standard polyester. This high surface performance combined with a patented pulse cleaning technology leads to the high performance increase, in the smallest spaces, at the lowest pressure drop and a minimised energy input.

For most of the industries, the development of PowerCore® fulfils the requirement for simple and service friendly maintenance of dust collectors which has been a demand for many years: Not only due to the increased filter life time, but also because of the incomparable simple filter replacements (picture 4) PowerCore® sets the contributing standard towards improved dust collection technology. With the introduction of this new filtration technology, Donaldson further extends its European wide service offering of maintenance on dust collectors.

The first presentation of the PowerCore® technology in the Czech market will be at the MSV exhibition, pavilion G2/71 from 15th – 19th September, 2008 in Brno.
